The story of the sett

The sett sits under a hedgerow somewhere between Reading and Oxford. It is exactly the sort of place where people move house constantly and nobody quite knows who to trust with their belongings.

Bramble had spent a lifetime loading vans and had grown tired of hearing the same story. A cheap quote. A firm with no real insurance. A family left standing on the pavement beside a broken wardrobe. He started keeping a list of the good ones. Maisie added the ones who could actually handle a tight staircase. Pip started writing the prices down. Nell made sure the fragile things came through in one piece.

That list became Which Removals. Every company on this site has been through Bramble's checklist. Every price you see came from Pip's spreadsheets. Every packing guide was written by Nell at her kitchen table. The badgers do not take a cut from the quotes you receive. They simply refuse to list anybody they would not use themselves.

Bramble started out loading vans on the Reading ring road before most of the crew were born. He moved 4000 homes before he ever picked up a clipboard. And he still says the worst damage he ever saw came from a firm that looked perfectly respectable on paper.

That day is why Which Removals exists. Bramble built the vetting checklist himself: goods-in-transit and public liability cover seen in writing. Trading history confirmed. Complaints followed up and the whole lot re-checked every twelve months.

He is not easily impressed. Roughly one in three firms who apply to join the directory never make it past his clipboard. And he sleeps very well because of it.

Maisie learned the trade shifting furniture around narrow Oxford terraces where the doors were built for people half her size. She has never yet met a staircase that beat her. Though a three-seater in Windsor came uncomfortably close.

She writes the access notes you see on every town page: which streets need a small van. Where the loading bays hide. Which historic centres will not take a Luton lorry down them on a Saturday.

If a mover tells her a job is impossible. She asks them to try again with the legs off.

The youngest of the sett. And the fastest with a calculator.

Pip is the reason you get an estimated price range before you speak to anybody. She spends her days collecting real job prices from vetted movers across every county and turning them into the cost tables on this site.

Her rule is simple: a price you cannot compare is not really a price. She was the one who noticed the same 2-bed move could cost £340 in one town and £680 forty minutes down the road. Which is now the first thing she tells anybody who will listen.

She is also the fastest typist in the sett. Which is why the quote form only takes two minutes.
